On 5th March 2018, the Myanmar National Minimum Wage Committee increased the rates of the standard minimum wages for employees in Myanmar under the Minimum Wages Law 2013 (1) from MMK450 per hour to MMK600 per hour and (2) from MMK3600 per day (8 hours) to MMK4,800 per day. This is a 33% increase from the previous rates of the standard minimum wages. The new rates do not apply to businesses having less than 10 employees and family-owned businesses.
The effective date of the new standard minimum wages will be determined later by the Union Government.
