New Trademark Registration Certificate for Recognition of International Trademark Registrations (IR) in Thailand

Effective from 15th August 2025, the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) of Thailand per its Announcement dated 6 August 2025 will issue trademark registration certificates (CM1 Form, CM2 Form and CM3 Form) and trademark registration replacement certificates (CM4 Form, CM5 Form and CM6 Form) in their digital forms for recognition of IR registered under the Madrid system replacing the physical forms of certificates announced under the Announcement of the DIP dated 21st December 2017.

We summarized the DIP’s process for issuing the digital trademark registration certificate below.

When the DIP issues the Statement of Grant (SOG) for each IR to the WIPO, the DIP will also issue a digital registration certificate (in any of the CM1, CM2 and CM3 Forms) plus the Statement of Total Grant of Protection (Model Form 4 / MF4) or the Statement of Total or Partial Grant of Protection Following a Provisional Refusal (Model Form 5 / MF5) and send them electronically to the WIPO. The information in the digital registration certificate will be made accessible to the public on the WIPO Madrid Monitor.

The DIP will no longer issue a physical registration certificate for IR.  Instead, the DIP will add a QR code to the digital registration certificate to allow public access to the information available in the DIP’s database and facilitate authentication of the digital certificate.

The digital registration certificate will include the Trademark Registrar’s digital signature which is secured through the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) system in compliance with the electronic transaction law of Thailand and as a means for the public to verify the authenticity and integrity of the digital registration certificate.

The digital registration certificate and the electronic data in or related to it are deemed official document issued by the DIP for recognition and protection of trademarks.  Use of the digital registration certificates will be legally binding and recognized effectively as use of physical certificates.
